In the mid 1960s, Fumio Demura brought his style of martial arts to America, incorporating not only the physical arts but also the virtues of bushido. Currently there are over 50 locations worldwide offering classes in karate-do, kobu-do and batto-do as part of Demura-Ha Shito-Ryu Karate-Do Genbu-Kai. When Shihan Fumio Demura passed away in 2023, Sensei Thanh Nguyen and Sensei David Hines were entrusted to continue his legacy. Our main (hombu) dojo is located in Santa Ana, California. The Hombu dojo had its Annual Summer Picnic at Irvine Regional Park on June 14th, 2026. It was a great day with lots of fun. We of course played our annual baseball game, followed by a delicious potluck lunch. This gave everyone a chance to visit and catch up on events and share memories. After the lunch we had a pinata and water balloon toss. It was a great event and perfect day and was enjoyed by all.
