In the mid 1960s, Fumio Demura brought his style of martial arts to America, incorporating not only the physical arts but also the virtues of bushido. Currently there are over 50 locations worldwide offering classes in karate-do, kobu-do and batto-do as part of Demura-Ha Shito-Ryu Karate-Do Genbu-Kai. When Shihan Fumio Demura passed away in 2023, Sensei Thanh Nguyen and Sensei David Hines were entrusted to continue his legacy. Our main (hombu) dojo is located in Santa Ana, California. The Hombu dojo preformed a demonstration at the Orange County Buddhist temple's Hanamatsuri Festival. Sensei Thanh Nguyen is containing the tradition set by Sensei Demura. The Hombu and local California dojos have been preforming karate demonstrations for over 40 years. There were many other events and displays at the festival along with food and games for the kids. Hanamatsuri (flower Festival) celebrates the birth of Siddhartha Gautama.
