September 19–20, 2026 – 40 Years of Genbu-Kai Lübeck e.V. – Anniversary Seminar with Sensei Thanh Nguyen
On September 19th and 20th, our partner dojo in Lübeck celebrated its 40th anniversary. To mark the occasion, Sensei Thanh Nguyen—Chairman and Chief Instructor of the Demura-Ha Genbu-Kai—traveled from America with a delegation. Guests from Spain, Poland, England, and other countries also attended.
For the youngest members of our Pinneberg group, training began on Saturday morning; our kids were on the tatami by 10 a.m. In a session designed specifically for children, they had the chance to meet Sensei and gain their first experience at such a large-scale international seminar.
Afterward, it was time for the teenagers and adults to start. Sensei guided us through a variety of techniques, kata, and bunkai applications. A Kobudo (weaponry) session followed immediately. Even those who had never held a bo (long staff) before could participate and discover Kobudo for themselves. The day concluded with another karate session.
Before heading to the celebratory banquet that evening, some of us from Pinneberg went to settle into our accommodation for the weekend—a sports hall in a neighboring town.
We quickly dropped off our luggage and headed back into the city center. We dined at the *Schiffergesellschaft* restaurant, located in a historic building in the Old Town. There, we rounded off the evening with engaging conversations and a good meal in a friendly, family-like atmosphere.
After a night in the sports hall that offered little rest, we headed straight back to the seminar on Sunday morning. We made a quick stop at a bakery on the way before attending.
